Our Governors

The Governing Body is accountable to all stakeholders in the school. The key players are the pupils, the staff, the parents and the local community. There are others to whom the Governing Body is accountable. These include the Local Authority (LA) and the Department for Education (DfE). The governing body is responsible for spending public money and for providing education for the pupils. It must report to those involved on the plans, the progress of the school and any other matters that are important.  Some of the Governing Body's tasks are:

- Set the vision, values and objectives for the school.
- Meet statutory duties.
- Consider, agree and monitor School's annual budget.
- Develop procedures for the recruitment and selection of all school staff.
- Determine the pay policy for the School.
- Directly manage the Headteacher's performance.
- Ensure the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the national curriculum, which takes account of individual needs, and report on achievement and attainment to all stakeholders.
- Engage with all stakeholders.
- Celebrate success.

In addition to Full Governing Body meetings, there are two committees that meet termly and their remit is as follows:

- Resources Committee - Finance, Personnel and Premises.
- Curriculum Committee - Curriculum, Assessment and Achievement.

My background is Secretarial, I worked in London on and off for 30 years in various capacities, mostly PA roles.  After working with Adult Special Needs at Ware College I joined Greenside in 1997 as an MSA and supply AT. I love all Sports and in 2002 I volunteered for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and also became a Games Maker at the London Olympics in 2012 driving.

Hilary Davies – Co-opted Governor (2015-2019)

I became head teacher at Lady Zia Wernher primary school in Luton in September in 2018. It is a school for pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties, prior to that I served as a teacher and held leadership responsibility at Greenside school for 24 years. 

I have been involved in Special education for 30 years. I have a passion for pupils to be supported to discover meaningful independence and enabling staff to support pupils' learning through creativity and innovation. I have been involved in curriculum development, RE for all and therapeutic de-escalation strategies. I have lived in Stevenage for 30 years. 

Rob Grundy- Co-opted Governor (2016-2020)

Rob joined Greenside as a sports coach in 2012 and has been on the governing board since 2016.  He is a Hertfordshire Steps tutor, leads moving and handling at Greenside and is also studying for a Masters Degree in Education.  His brother attended a similar school in Wigan which has led him to want to improve the learners experience and outcomes from education.

Jo McNamara- Parent Governor (2016-2020)

became a parent governor in January 2017, she has three children, Harry her middle child has attended Greenside since January 2016. Jo works as a Registered Manager for Hertfordshire’s Safeguarding and Specialist service and has worked with children from 0-18 with varying needs for 15 years. Jo is also a registered assessor working in childcare settings assessing across qualifications and supporting learners to develop their skills within schools, residential homes and early years provisions.

Throughout my life I have always enjoyed reading and increasing my general knowledge. I studied Education and Art at Bedford College and I still enjoy visiting art galleries and in my spare time I paint and sew. I also enjoy reading historical novels, listening to music and spending time with my family and friends.
 I am a retired Primary School Teacher, with over thirty-two year’s experience of teaching in main-stream education within Hertfordshire. I am also the mother of a profoundly disabled son, who was a pupil of Greenside School between the years 1999 and 2017. As a result I believe I have a unique insight into the challenges facing both parents and educators of young people with SEND.

Dave Smith- Co-opted Governor – Chair of Governors (2018-2022)

Currently Chair of Governors at Greenside. Previously parent governor and vice chair of governors at Heathcote school since 1999 until it closed. I am currently a Paramedic with the London Ambulance Service and in my spare time I enjoy dog walking and exploring around the UK in my Campervan

Dave Victor – Head teacher Greenside School.
Term of office from September 2000 – ongoing

Dave became a member of the Greenside governing body in September 2000, when he was appointed as Headteacher. Dave had previously been Head of Lancaster School, where he had also been a governor. Dave has extensive experience in special education. He has previously been an OfSTED inspector. Dave has a Batchelor’s as well as a Master Degree in Education. In 2001 he gained an MBA in education leadership, and a Diploma in Adult Education.  Dave has extensive experience of leading training for teachers, this has included teaching on a Master’s Degree courses at Essex University.

I have worked at Greenside as a class teacher since 2005. In that time, I have worked in the Primary and Senior department, working with learners with a range of needs including ASC, SLD, PMLD and challenging behaviour. I am also a member of the debrief tem, who provide support for staff well-being. Having worked at Greenside for many years I have a keen interest in the running of the school. I feel very passionate about curriculum and strive for learning to be engaging, relevant and fun for all individuals who attend Greenside.

Claire-Louise Budge - Parent Governor (2018-2022)

I have supported the school for 4 years, making up hampers for the school raffle, which has been successful. I am keen to continue to support the school and pupils in the years to come and help the school grow. I have experience in finance and having SEND child myself I can relate to parents concerns and work with all to get the best from the school for the community that use it.
